Week 7 in Class R

Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024

What a great half term we've had . The children have had a wonderful time, making new friends, learning routines and having lots of fun!

This week we read the story All About Families by Felicity Brooks. We have spoken about how families are all different and sometimes live in different places.  The children have discussed who is  is in their family and we have had a go at writing some simple sentences.  We looked at pictures of parents with their children and we wrote the sentence 'It is a mum' and 'It is a dad.' On Friday, we drew a family portrait and it was lovely to see everyone’s families and even some pets too!

On Monday we took part in our Golden Mile challenge. All the children ran around the trim trail and completed one lap. Well done Class R!

In phonics, we have revisited the sounds (phonemes) that we've covered this half term. The children are coming on really well with this and starting to spot these around the classroom too. We are working really hard at blending them to read words.  Please see you phonics weekly worksheet for ideas on how to help at home and use the word cards that we sent with their phonics assessment sheet.

In maths this week, we have been learning the maths language of more and fewer. We have looked at sets of items and decided on which has more and later in the week which had fewer. The children were great at this - fewer was trickier to remember so we will revisit throughout our maths lessons regularly. We use fewer when we talk about items / objects that can be counted, for example, pencils, toys, apple pieces on a plate, etc.

In P.E we practised our jumping, running, and bouncing and catching a ball. The Year 6 children came to meet the class and helped in our P.E lesson and we shared stories and had some time showing them our favourite activities with them in reception. After half term, we will buddy the children up with a year 6 child who will work with them regulary over the year. This is something we do each year and both the year 6 children and reception children love this opportunity.

I hope you all have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you when we come back!
