Week 7 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024
This week we read the story All About Families by Felicity Brooks. We have been looking at our families throughout the week and talking about how families come in all shapes and sizes. The children have discussed who they live with and who is in their family. We looked at pictures of parents with their children and we wrote the sentence “It is a mum” and It is a dad.” On Friday we drew a family portrait and it was lovely to see everyone’s families and even some pets too!
On Monday we took part in our Golden Mile challenge. All the children ran around the trim trail and completed one lap. Well done Ra!
In phonics, we have revisited the sounds (phonemes) f, h, b and l. We have looked at what sound they make, listening to those sounds in words (orally blending) and trying to read them within words. The children are coming on really well with this and starting to spot these around the classroom too. The children are doing really well at remembering the phonemes and we are working hard to learn how to blend them together. The children revisited the tricky words, I, is and the this week.
In our maths lessons, we have been looking at using five frames. We are becoming subitising superstars, using our fast eyes and we're able to explain how we know a number is made. We have been looking at the composition of 4 on a 5 frame. We spoke about how 4 is one more than 3 and what this looks like on a 5 frame.
We've been practising our patterns this week with some music and pretended to make the shapes using our lightwands. The children loved this and created some excellent castle patterns - all good practice for their letter formation.
In P.E we practised our jumping, running, throwing and catching. The Year 6 children came to meet the class and helped in our P.E lesson. Afterwards the Year 6 children read with the children. It was lovely to have Year 6 spend the afternoon with us. After half term, we will buddy the children up with a year 6 child who will work with them regulary over the year. This is something we do each year and both the year 6 children and reception children love this opportunity.
This week’s VIP has been Henry. Henry is a happy and caring member of our class. Henry enjoys phonics and playing with the teddies with his friends! Well done!
I hope you all have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you when we come back!
