Week 38 in Class R
Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023
What a fun week we've had in Reception this week. On Monday, we watched the Year 6 performance. It was great to see our buddies singing and acting on the stage! On Thursday,
we had a visit from Robbie the tortoise. Sue one of the local residents brought him in for us to learn about him. We learnt that he is a reptile and cold-blooded and that he gets his energy from the sun so when it is sunny, he moves a little faster. We also learnt that his shell is made up of lots of hard plates together. It was very interesting to watch him move about. Sue told us that he liked to eat cucumber, strawberries and dandelions, so we went for a forage on the field to collect some dandelions to feed to him. We had a fantastic time watching him enjoy his lunch. Harry taught us that tortoises are herbivores and explained that it meant they only eat plants. When we observed him the children told us what they had observed.
- He can hide in his shell if he is scared
- He moves slowly
- He has a bumpy shell
- He is a bit wobbly on his front legs when he walks
- His shell has pretty patterns on it
- He has tiny eyes
- Henry told us that he thought that turtles live in the oceans and tortoises live on land.
On Friday, we had an arts and crafts morning. The children enjoyed painting with different materials and different types of paints.
In Literacy this week we written sentences about what lessons we enjoy in school to give to our Year 1 teacher. We also drew a picture of ourselves. The children wrote “In school I am best at…”. We also learnt lots of facts about tortoises this week and found out that a tortoise can live to 100 year olds!
In Maths this week we have practised counting in 2s up to 20. We have also practised counting beyond 20 forwards and backwards. We have looked this week at forming number sentences when using our part whole and ten frames. The children enjoying acting out their number sentences with their arms and then writing it down. They did a great job of getting the symbols in the right order.
In P.E this week, the children have practised team building games and passing a ball along our colour team in different ways. We had to pass over our head and with our knees. It was quite tricky but the children did a great job at concentrating and taking their time to get it all the way down the line.
A great week Reception. We are looking forward to spending the last week of reception with you!
