Week 37 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024

This week in Ra we have been learning all about football. We read the book “Let’s Play Football” by Ben Lerwill and Marina Ruiz. The story celebrates the simple joys of football, whatever your background or ability. We have looked at the rules of football this week. We had a go at some ball skills and scoring a goal!

On Tuesday, we had a fantastic assembly from Puddle Ducks, all about water safety. The children learnt how the importance of keeping safe around water. We also learnt all about water safety flags and what the different colours mean. We also learnt how to safely float in the water if we accidentally fell in.

In Maths this week we have revisited doubles. We worked in partners to share out counters, we then discussed whether they were doubles or not. We made a list of all the doubles and a list of all the non-doubles. We have also revisited different ways of making 5. The children have used counters on a die frame to show how 5 can be made from 4 and 1 and 2 and 3.

In P.E this week the children played Goalball. Goalball is a unique Paralympic team sport for visually impaired players. However, in the UK, anyone can play as everyone wears eye shades. Instead of using sight, you listen for the audible ball and feel for the tactile court. This week, we have looked at the Paralympics and watched professional Goalball tournaments.

On Thursday we released our butterflies into the allotment. It was fantastic to see them fly off and some even landed on our hands and tops.

On Friday we learnt all about the artist Jackson Pollock. The children used straws and paint to create beautiful artwork! We also had our Wonderful Work Assembly on Friday and some of the children shared with the school what they would like to be when they grow up.

This week’s VIP has been Poppy! Poppy is a very kind and helpful member of our class. She always tries her best in everything she does! Well done!

The Reception children have worked so hard this term. As a result of their hard work both classes have filled their cube jars. The children have been voting for a class treat next week. All Reception children are invited to wear fancy dress/non-uniform on Friday 12th July.
