Week 36 in Class R
Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023
This week in Class R, we have learnt all about castles. On Monday, we learnt the features of a castle and their purpose for example the Battlements, Drawbridge, Moat, Arrow slits and their positioning on a hill. On Tuesday, we labelled our own castle and spotted all the features that we had learnt. This helped us to design and build our own castle on Tuesday afternoon. The children practised their measuring, cutting, sticking and folding skills. The children did a great job and we hope that you enjoyed seeing them.
In Literacy this week, we wrote sentences to describe castles. We showed the class different castIes from around the world and the children decided which one was their favourite. The class then wrote the sentence “I like the castle because…” and thought of the reason why that was their favourite one. We focused on spelling the tricky word “like” and using a capital letter to start our sentences. We have also focused on letter formation this week and practised correctly forming the letter g.
In Maths this week, we have revisited number lines. The children have practised ordering numbers 1 to 20. We have also practised filling in the missing numbers. On Thursday we found numbers which wered one/ two more than a given number, using our number lines to help us. We also revisited number formation and practised correctly forming the numbers 3, 5 and 7.
In P.E this week, the children continued to practise for sports day. This week we have practised the sprint in our colour teams. We have also practised egg and spoon and the sack race. On Friday it is sports day and we are looking forward to seeing the children do their best in their races.
