Week 34 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024
Last week we learnt all about caterpillars and their life cycle. On Monday we have some very special guests turn up to class Ra! We have 5 caterpillars in our class. The children have watched the caterpillars grow this week and observed what they can see.
This week in Ra we have been learning all about trains. In Literacy this week we have read “Little Red Train: Busy Day” by Benedict Blathwayt. We discussed where the train goes on its journey and what tasks it carries out. The children discussed whether they had been on a train before and if they enjoyed it. We looked at the different parts of a train and spoke about how a steam train works. The children labelled their own train and all the parts. On Friday we created a map of “Busy Day” in the style of a train going along a track.
In P.E this week the children have practised the egg and spoon race and practised their balancing skills. We had to carefully balance a bean bag on our heads and move around the hall. It was important that we didn’t drop the bean bag just like we don’t drop the egg in the race.
In Maths this week we have practised using the rekenreks. The children have practised more than and fewer than this week. We have been comparing two sets of objects or beads and discussing which one has more and which one has fewer objects.
On Friday we did some Kandinsky style art work. We looked at the style of artwork and discussed how we could create the circles using oil pastels. We spoke about different colours and what patterns we wanted to create. The class then used their oil pastels to create circles and produced their own Kandinsky art work.
We also made a paper steam train on Friday. The children cut out circles for the wheels, squares for the windows, and a rectangle for a chimney. We used cotton wool to make steam and smoke. The children used glue to stick all their parts together. Well done Ra!
We have spoken about the Euros 2024 this week and predicted who we think is going to win! We spoke about what the Euros are and where they are taking place this year. Lots of the class said they were looking forward to watching the first game today.
This week’s VIP has been Amélie. Amélie is a polite and popular member of our class! Amélie loves drawing and creating her own artwork. Well done! We enjoyed looking at the green teams show and tell this week. Next week it will be blue group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the blue team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
Have a lovely weekend!
