Week 34 in Class R
Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023
In Literacy this week, we have read the story You Choose. The children have discussed what job they would like to do when they are older. We also looked at all different types of jobs and the children came up with some great ideas from a midwife to a fisherman and written sentences to tell us why they would like to do them.
In maths, we read the book Titch by Pat Hutchins and asked the children do they know what happens to seeds when they grow? We talked about what we could see and notice in the story. The children realised that Titch always had small things and his older siblings had the larger items. The children were really good at coming up with ideas of what each child could have based on their heights. We have explored heights this week, with the children measuring how tall they are with blocks, how far they can throw beanbags and drawing around themselves on the ground and counting how many footsteps it took to measure. On Friday, Miss Wootton showed images of the tallest sunflower ever recorded in the Guinness book of records; it was grown in Germany and measured a very tall height of 9.17 metres. The children tried to guess how tall that was and wondered if it was taller than Miss Wootton and even Mrs Noble. Using a metre stick and string, we measured the string to 9.17m, and then went outside with a balloon to see how tall it was. We thought it would be taller than the doors and maybe even the upstairs windows of school, but we were all surprised to see that it was taller than our school.
In PE this week, we have continued to practise for sports day. We are really excited to see how the children do next week. This week’s VIP has been Olivia. Olivia is a kind and caring member of our class. Olivia loves Art and wants to be an artist when she is older.
This week’s show and tell was green group where we saw some instruction built race cars and some medals. Next week, it is yellow group. Please could the yellow team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning and we will fit it in around Sports Day. Have a lovely week everyone!
