Week 33 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week in Ra we have read the book Jack and the Flumflum tree by Julia Donaldson. We have learnt all about treasure chests and maps. On Monday morning there was a treasure chest in our classroom filled with lots of exciting and precious objects. We discussed what we might keep in a treasure chest and the children got to pass around a few items to touch and feel. Next week the children will be describing the objects found in our treasure chest.

In Literacy this week we have drawn story maps for Jack and the Flumflum tree. We started by creating a class story map and also worked with our colour teams to order the events in the story. Then the class designed their own story map and recalled the events that happened in order. I was very impressed with how much the children could remember from the story and how confident they all were at retelling this to their partner. Well done Ra! On Friday we acted out the story as a class and took turns to play different characters.

In Maths this week we have been investigating patterns. At the start of the week we looked at how we can create patterns with our body for example “clap, jump, and clap”. The children took it in turns to create their own pattern for the class to follow. On Tuesday afternoon, we went outside for Maths and in partners created a pattern out of found objects. The children collected leaves, sticks and wood to create their fantastic patterns. It was a fantastic afternoon! On Thursday we looked at creating patterns with jewels for a crown. On Friday we looked at creating patterns with shapes.

In P.E this week the children have begun to prepare for our sports day. We practised the egg and spoon race and the sack race. We practised lining up in our colour teams and getting to the finish line. I was very impressed with everyone working together in their teams and encouraging and supporting each other.

This week’s VIP has been Alaiyah. Alaiyah is a confident and kind member of our class. Alaiyah always tries her best in everything she does! Well done Alaiyah! We enjoyed looking at the red teams show and tell this week. Next week it will be blue group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the blue team bring in their show and tell bags on Thursday morning.
