Week 32 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023
This week in Ra we have continued reading the book The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. At the start of the week we had a day full of art. In partners we created our own rainbow fish art. The children worked together to draw scales on their rainbow fish. They then used oil pastels, pens, and crayons to create a different pattern in each scale. We have used the children’s amazing art work to decorate our classroom! The fish look fantastic on the walls.
In Literacy this week we wrote sentences to sharks and stingrays. We looked at pictures from our trip to Blue Planet and described the animals we saw. We spoke about shark facts and remembered facts we learnt at Blue Planet. We wrote the sentence ‘The shark has sharp teeth.’ We learnt that sharks are carnivores and have over 300 teeth.
In P.E this week the children have begun to prepare for our sports day. We practised the egg and spoon race today. The children carefully balanced their egg on their spoon and practised walking carefully with it. We also practised the sack race. The children are all very excited for sports day now.
In Maths this week we have been learning about capacity. We have investigated whether a tall container or a short container holds more water. We carefully filled the containers with a cup of water and discovered that the taller one could hold more water. The children practised filling up different containers with water and sand. In Science the children have been investigating what objects sink and what objects float. We discovered that the heavier objects sunk in the water and the lighter objects could float.
This week’s VIP has been Qasim. Qasim is a popular and kind member of our class. Qasim particularly loves dinosaurs and P.E! Well done Qasim! We enjoyed looking at the yellow teams show and tell this week. After half term, it will be red group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the red team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
After half term we will be reading the story Jack and the Flum Flum tree by Julia Donaldson and looking at treasure chests and maps!
