Week 31 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023
This week in Ra we have been reading the book The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. On Monday the children made their own rainbow fish. Throughout the week we have been writing sentences to describe The Rainbow Fish. The children have used lots of fantastic adjectives. On Tuesday the children learnt some classic songs and nursery rhymes about the sea.
On Wednesday we went on our Reception school trip to Blue Planet Aquarium. The children had a fantastic time. We loved learning about all the fish at Blue Planet and watching the divers feed the stingrays. We had a lesson all about habitats and what animals and humans need to survive in a habitat. Our favourite part of the trip was exploring the underwater tunnel. In the tunnel we saw sharks, stingrays, and lots of species of fish. We had a brilliant time, well done Ra! Thank you to the parents or carers who volunteered to help it was greatly appreciated.
In Literacy this week we wrote sentences to describe The Rainbow Fish. We dictated the sentence “The Rainbow Fish was swimming in the deep, dark sea”. On Thursday we practised forming our long letters. The children practised writing the letter ‘p’ and ensuring it goes under the line.
In P.E this week the children have practised their throwing skills. The children worked together in groups to throw and catch a ball. We also practised throwing bean bags into a target on the floor and in the air. We practised keeping our eye on the ball when catching and holding our hands ready.
In Maths this week we have been learning how to subtract. We used a large scale drawn fish and scales cut out. The children placed 10 scales on the fish in a ten frame formation and removed 4 off. On Friday we practised crossing out sweets. The children crossed out sweets and then wrote the matching number sentence.
This week’s VIP has been Carter. Carter is a kind and polite member of our class. Carter particularly loves maths and phonics! Well done Carter! We enjoyed looking at the green teams show and tell this week. Next week, it will be yellow group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the yellow team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
Next week we will continue to learn about The Rainbow Fish and create some big fish art!
