Week 29 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023
This week in Ra we have been learning all about the Coronation. We have learnt what happens at a coronation and why they are important. The children have been practising a special Coronation song to sing on Friday in our assembly and we have learnt the National Anthem. On Tuesday the children created their own Coat of Arms and carefully chose which animals they wanted to draw. All the animals have different meanings so it was important the children chose ones which represented themselves.
On Friday the children dressed up in red, white and blue. Some children dressed up as Kings and Queens and we asked the children what they would do if they were King or Queen for one day! The children had some great ideas and drew pictures of themselves as a King or a Queen. We enjoyed our special Coronation lunch and admired the bunting we had made in Ra which was put up to celebrate. On Friday afternoon we designed our own crowns. We also planted sunflower seeds for the Coronation so every child could take one home and see how tall they grow.
In Literacy this week we wrote sentences to describe King Charles III. The children wrote “The King has a gold crown with jewels”. We also looked at pictures and videos of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation. The children discussed why the photo was in black and white and we spoke about the history of the coronation. Class Ra have really enjoyed learning about the Coronation and King Charles III!
In P.E this week the children have practised their throwing and catching skills. We worked together in partners to carefully throw and catch the beanbag. The children could move back and make it harder. I was very impressed with their catching skills and hand eye coordination. Well done Ra!
In Maths this week we have continued learning about teen numbers. We have practised partitioning teen numbers and using our fingers to show how many 10’s and how many ones they contain. On Friday we also practised repeating patterns whilst making our crowns. The children created patterns with shapes for jewels and they looked brilliant.
This week’s VIP has been Molly. Molly is a popular and friendly member of our class. Molly particularly loves P.E and phonics! Well done Molly! We enjoyed looking at the red teams show and tell this week. Next week, it will be blue group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the blue team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
