Week 27 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week in Ra we have been learning all about tigers.

We focused on the book ‘Augustus and his Smile’ by Catherine Rayner. We spoke about all the places Augustus went in the story and wrote adjectives and sentences to describe them in our colour teams. We have also started a tiger fact file this week which the children will finish next week. The class drew some amazing tigers for their fact files.

In Literacy this week we have focused on ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. On Monday we read the story and modelled how to have a tea party. The children discussed what we would need to buy for a tea party and what food we could eat. We spoke about the shopping list Mummy needs to make after the tiger has eaten everything in the house and played the shopping list game. The children even created their own shop and café on the playground. On Thursday we practised our handwriting and letter formation. I was very impressed!

In P.E this week the children worked together in colour teams to complete a relay race. The children practised passing the baton to each other and running around the cones. We also played some team games where we had to pass items along our colour team.

In Maths this week we have been partitioning into equal groups. The children have worked in small groups to share numbers into equal groups. We discussed how the children know whether the groups are equal and what this looks like. We started the week by sharing the number six into equal groups. On Tuesday and Thursday we partitioned 8 and 9 into eqaul groups and investigated all the ways we could do this. On Friday the children made as many equal groups out of 10 teddy bears.

This week’s VIP has been Henry. Henry is a friendly and caring member of our class. Henry particularly loves Phonics! Well done Henry! We enjoyed looking at the green teams show and tell this week. Next week, it will be yellow group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the yellow team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
