Week 26 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024
Good afternoon all,
This week in Ra we have had lots of Easter fun! We made Easter baskets, Easter cards, painted daffodils and even made our own nests! On Tuesday, we had an egg and spoon race around the Reception playground! On Friday, we made Easter hats and Easter nests to take home. The children have all taken home a little Easter chick to look after.
In Literacy this we have focused on writing sentences independently. The children have dictated and written their own sentences using their phonics awareness to support them. The children have been looking at pictures of painted Easter eggs and discussing what adjectives we could use to describe them. After Easter, the children will write an independent sentence every morning in our phonics lessons. The children have really impressed us with their capital letters, finger spaces, handwriting and use of full stops. Well done Ra!
On Tuesday Mrs Mitchell helped us plant sunflowers. We planted one to keep in school and one to take home.
In P.E this week we practised our balancing and jumping skills again. We reviewed how to jump safely bending our knees to help us land. We practised balancing along a bench and throwing and catching a ball at the same time. This is fantastic for our balancing skills and hand eye coordination skills. We also practised our jumping on floor ladders. The children really enjoyed attempting the monkey bars and I was very impressed with their upper body strength. Keep up the hard work Ra!
In Maths this week, we have been comparing the weights of objects. The children have been using weighing scales to compare two objects. We worked in colour teams to investigate what the heaviest object was and what the lightest was. On Wednesday the children attempted to use blocks to balance the scales. The children have had access to weighing scales all week and have been practising this skill in their choosing time.
Our V.I.P this week has been Arlo. Arlo enjoys playing in the kitchen and role-play area. Well done!
I hope you have a lovely half term and Easter!
