Week 25 in Class R
Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024
Good afternoon,
This week, we have been exploring the world of minibeasts. The children started the week looking at the difference between spiders and insects. They learnt that insects have 6 legs and spiders have 8 legs and are arachnids. On Monday, the children created their own spiders by folding card concertina style and attaching them as legs.
We have looked at the life cycle of the butterfly at the end of the week and learnt that the butterfly lays an egg, the egg hatches into a larva (baby caterpillar) which sheds its skin as it grows and then creates a chrysalis to change into a butterfly. We discussed that the butterfly finds a mate to make a new egg and then the cycle starts again.
In maths, we have been revising doubles and introduced odd and even numbers. We looked at how sharing between two sometimes leaves us with an equal amount (even) and sometimes leaves us with an amount that isn’t equal ( odd). On Friday, we explored these more and noticed that even numbers were also doubles.
In PE, we continued our lessons on flight and landing. We practised safe landing with soft, bent knees and explored different ways to travel along benches and beams. The children found the bunny hops over a bench quite tricky but they worked hard to master it.
On Friday, we enjoyed an assembly where we listened to KS1 children who have been learning to play the ukulele.
We hope that you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to learning all about Easter celebrations!
