Week 22 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024
Good afternoon all,
We have had a fun week in Reception this week. We have based our learning around the books The Smeds and The Smoos and also the colour monster.
The Smeds and The Smoos is a brilliant rhyming book by Julia Donaldson which covers the themes of emotions, diversity and and inclusion. The children have enjoyed joining in with the repeating rhymes throughout the story. Joining in with stories and rhymes helps the children to immerse themselves into the stories and also really contributes to their language and vocabulary.
The children have enjoyed exploring The Colour Monster and their emotions. We have some colour monsters in our class and we have been putting a named peg on their each day to show how we are feeling. This has given us some great discussion and helped us to think about what we can do to make ourselves feel better. On Friday we drew and painted our own Colour Monsters. We also had a go at creating an emotions bottle and shaking it up to show how sometimes we feel confused and can feel lots of different emotions together.
In Phonics, we are now consolidating all of the phase 3 phonemes that we learnt last half term. We will continue to do this for the remainder of the year to ensure that the children are confident going into Year 1. Please continue to look through the homework sheets that come home each week and practise with your children at home.
In PE this week, we had our Amaven testing. This is a personal challenge which we do three times a year consisting of broad jumps, bouncing a ball and catching it and times shuttle runs. It was great fun and the children did a great job.
In maths this week, we are consolidating our learning about comparison and proving how something is more or fewer. It is really important that the children are able to talk about how they know their answer and have an idea of how to prove it. We played a game where one child in the pair had to cover their eyes, the other child then removed some of the cubes. The child then opened their eyes and had to tell them how many had been taken. The children used their compositon facts to help them solve the problem.
In music this week we have used instruments to create different sounds to resemble different emotions. We thought about what a happy piece of music might sound like and listened to some examples. We then thought about what a sad piece of music sounds like and listened to some examples. The class then had a go at creating their own sad and happy music.
Just a reminder that next week is World Book Day on Thursday. We are asking the children to come in their wellies linking to the book our school are looking at ' Where my wellies take me' . We will be going on our library visit on Wednesday and joining with our buddies to do some world book day activities.
Our V.I.P this week has been Ronel. Ronel has settled in wonderfully to our class. Well done! We enjoyed looking at the blue teams show and tell this week. Next week it will be green group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the green team bring in their show and tell on Friday morning.
We hope that you have a great weekend!
