Week 22 in Class Ra
Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023
Welcome back after half term! This week in Ra we have celebrated World Book Day. As part of World Book we dressed up in our gold and sparkly outfits on Thursday to show that we are ‘Going for Gold’. We also visited Holmes Chapel library this week and had a chance to explore all the books they have to offer. The librarian kindly read us all a story. Thank you to those parents who volunteered to go along with us to the library it was greatly appreciated!
In Phonics this week, we have been reviewing our longer words and tricky words. In Literacy this week, we have looked at the book You Choose in Space. The children described the aliens from the book using their best adjectives and we wrote sentences about our favourite alien. We also designed our own alien this week. The children have composed their own sentence by counting each word on their fingers. We focused on finger spaces, full stops and a capital letter, using our phonics to help us with our spelling.
In Maths this week, we learnt about equal groups and odd and even numbers. We started the week by dividing the class into groups of 6 and then groups of 3 and then 2. Each time we changed groups we discussed whether it was an equal group and what this means. We then discussed odd and even numbers. The children played a team game and they needed to be in two equal teams. The children split into two equal teams and everyone needed a partner. We then spoke about a group of 7 children and how not everyone can have a partner, therefore the number is odd. When we split into two groups with an odd number, we always have one left over. Ra did really well at explaining why numbers are odd and even. Well done Ra!
In Science this week, we looked at the four seasons. We learnt the order of the seasons and how to recognise what season it is by looking at the nature around us. We drew a tree for each season and spoke about what happens to the leaves. We also linked this to the weather and had a go at guessing which season it might be.
This week’s VIP has been Daisy. Daisy is a kind and cheerful member of our class and her favourite subject is phonics. We enjoyed looking at the green teams show and tell this week. Next week, it will be yellow group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the yellow team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
Next week on Wednesday we have our Reception school trip to Zog. Please can the children bring a snack for the show and a small drink. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help on the day.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and we'll see you next week!
