Week 11 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week we have continued learning all about superheroes. We continued to read Supertato and retold the story using pictures from the book. We have made collage capes for superheroes using lots of different coloured paper and counted the evil peas into cups.

In Phonics this week we learnt sh, th, ng, nk. We have independently written the sentence “It is a pea.” and spoke about the importance of a full stop and capital letter. We use our fingers to help us segment a word and spell it.

In Numeracy we have been exploring 1 more and 1 less. We created our numbers using counters and cubes on 5 frames and number tracks. We looked at the number got small or bigger as we moved up and down the number track. The children are getting very good at using their fast eyes to see numbers within numbers and seeing how they are made up of different parts. We have been using 5 frames to add 1 more or 1 less with counters.

On Wednesday we spoke about healthy and unhealthy foods. We sorted healthy and unhealthy foods into groups. Next week on Monday the dentist is coming to visit us and will be very impressed with our healthy food knowledge.

In Science we spoke about what we need to grow a plant. We looked at pictures of different seeds and discussed our experiences with growing our own plants and vegetables in the garden. We used actions to pretend to plant and water our own plant. We then pretended to be seeds and Miss MacWilliam watered us until we grew into beautiful flowers!

On Friday we had non-uniform day and we got to wear a Christmas accessory. Everyone looked very festive in their jumpers, headbands and hats!

Thank you to red group for sharing their show and tell bags with us. Next week, it will be blue group’s turn please could they bring in their treasure bags on Friday morning.

This week’s VIP has been Matthaios. Matthaios always tries his best in phonics, is kind to everyone in the class and always has a big smile.
