Class 6a Giacometti sculpture

Lesson: Art and design

Class: Year 6 Year: 2022 - 2023

Alberto Giacometti was a Swiss artist who was born 10th October 1901 and died 11th January 1966. As well as painting, Giacometti specialised
in other art forms. In 1922, Giacometti moved to Paris where he studied sculpture alongside some of the most famous sculptors of the time.

Giacometti made sculptures by having people model for him. He liked to use models he knew well. These models included friends, his sister and Annette Arm, whom he married in 1949.

Over time, Giacometti’s style began to change. He often made sculptures of people he knew from memory. Every time he made one of these sculptures, he found they got smaller and smaller.

In our Art lessons, we created our own versions of Giacometti's sculptures - we found it challenging to create the wire forms, however, we persevered and we think we created unique forms!
