Week 29 in Class R

This week we read The Rainbow fish, as part of our ‘Journeys over land and sea’ topic. In Literacy, we thought of descriptive words to describe the Rainbow fish and put them into sentences. Lots of writing practise this week, as we wrote about treasure chests and spelt words to match the pictures in our independent writing books.

In maths we have learnt about subtraction and number bonds to 10. We talked about what would happen if the rainbow fish lost some of his scales and how we could check how many were left.

In Phonics we have started our new ‘Little Wandle’ phonics scheme and have jumped straight into Phase 4. This scheme will be adopted by the whole school in September, so the Reception children are having a special sneak preview and will be raring to go with it in Year 1!

We had to be very quiet and sensible around school Monday to Thursday this week, as the Year 6 children have been doing their SATs papers. This meant we couldn’t go outside much, as their classrooms are above our outdoor area. On Thursday we helped the year 6 children celebrate the end of the tests by inviting them to spend the afternoon with us in Reception. All the children were so excited to spend time with their buddies and we played outside, inside and they taught our children how to make red, white and blue pompoms to celebrate the jubilee in a few weeks.

Blue group are invited to bring a special item from home into school for show and tell on Friday.

Our VIP this week was Emilia. Emilia has done some amazing writing over the last few weeks, putting all her phonics knowledge into action. Well done Emilia!

Enjoy the sun over the weekend, we’ll see you all on Monday.
