Year 4 trip to Jodrell Bank

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 4 Year: 2017 - 2018

Year 4 had a fantastic learning experience at Jodrell Bank.

In the first interactive workshop, the children foundout more about British astronaut Tim Peake and his mission to the International Space Station in 2016. They learnt about some of the key skills needed not only to be an astronaut, but a scientist or engineer working in the space industry.

The children worked together to construct and test a circuit, and taking readings of their own health and fitness data. We also witnessed an explosive rocket engine demonstration!

In the second hands-on, team-building workshop, the children found out more about the exploration of Mars by the current Curiosity rover, along with the engineering challenges in landing crafts on another planet.

They then had to work together to construct a device out of limited resources, to safely land their own fragile cargo (an egg!) in the classroom..
